Google today announced the release of Google Earth on iPhone. The iPhone version ports most of the core features available on desktop version of Google Earth to iPhone. Now, you can travel around by just using iPhone.

Globemalaysia

According to Google’s Official blog, with Google Earth for iPhone, you can: mountain

  • Tilt your iPhone to adjust your view to see mountainous terrain
  • View the Panoramio layer and browse the millions of geo-located photos from around the world
  • View geo-located Wikipedia articles
  • Use the ‘Location’ feature to fly to your current location
  • Search for cities, places and business around the globe with Google Local Search

Awesome Features!

Unfortunately, Google Earth still not available in our shores for  a meantime, you can get it for free at United States AppStore instead. I have download the application on my iPhone and play around with it for a while.  In some sense, the iPhone version is even better than the desktop counterpart. With iPhone’s built-in accelerometer, one awesome feature is that you can tilt the iPhone to change the view. Normally, at horizontal level, the view of the world is straight down. And you can tilt a certain degree out of horizontal to adjust the view, so look up the mountain or sky.

In other hand, you can use two-finger drag to change the view point and double-tap to zoom into a particular spot.

Search, Geotagged Photos & Wikipedia

Like other version of Google Earth, the iPhone version also includes search. You can search for places and business around the globe. And, as you navigate through Google Earth, you’ll see “W” icons indicating the links to Wikipedia article for that specific spot.

You also will see a “blue squares” icon indicating geotagged photos as screen shots below.
